"Blue Gold Rush" is a documentary aired by CTV in the First Story series. Description from the CTV site: "Over the last few years the BC Liberal government has been quietly leasing the rights to many of province's rivers and streams to private power developers. Hundreds of rivers in First Nation traditional territories may be diverted for new private power projects. The Union of BC Indian Chiefs is calling for a moratorium on all development on B.C.'s rivers and streams. How do these projects affect First Nations rights, culture, fish habitats and environment?"

The drive for clean energy sparks a B.C. gold rush. It's about Plutonic Power Corp.'s proposed projects in the Toba Inlet.
Excerpt: "Plutonic founder and CEO Donald McInnes seems taken aback by criticism of run-of-river hydroelectricity, including that contained in recent articles in the Georgia Straight... 'Fear-mongering' is McInnes's answer to reports that B.C.'s run-of-river projects lack oversight." |
